Online Banking Security Features

While striving to provide both convenience and security, Bank-Fund Staff Federal Credit Union has implemented built-in safeguards to the Online Banking system to protect your personal and financial information.

We are constantly striving to improve and update these built-in features based on trends in the industry and new developments in e-Commerce security. The following are some of the security features you may or may not be aware of for BFSFCU’s Online Banking system:

  • Automatic Session Expiration: For your protection, BFSFCU will automatically terminate your Online Banking session after 10 minutes of inactivity should you step away from your workstation or fail to sign-out properly.

  • Automatic Account Lockout: BFSFCU systems intelligently monitor, register and log failed login attempts in order to discourage and prevent unauthorized access to your account information. Activity deemed as suspicious may trigger an automatic lock-out of the account to prevent further attempts to gain access while at the same time alerting our security team of potential problems.

  • Unique Security Number and Passwords: After completing an application for access to the Online Banking system, you were supplied with a unique Online Banking Security Number (OBSN) and password. We recommend you keep this information in a safe and secure place, use strong password policies, and change your passwords on a regular basis for increased security.

  • Online Billpayer: The Online Billpayer service is provided free as a safe and secure method to manage, your monthly bills and regularly scheduled payments in a single location. Reducing the need for the mailing and archiving of paper statements that contain confidential personal and account information and thus are susceptible to Identity Theft.

  • e-Alerts: The e-Alerts service permits members to register for various notifications to any internet e-Mail capable device, including, but not limited to account balance and activity, loan balance, electronic ACH debits and credits, cleared checks, and upcoming loan payment due dates. By receiving short messages that confirm activity on your Credit Union accounts, you can be immediately aware of any unauthorized or suspicious transactions.

  • Online Statements: BFSFCU provides 24 months of statements in PDF format and real-time recent activity via Online Banking. This service enables you to monitor your accounts and detect suspicious activity. You may also elect to stop receiving paper statements via mail and be notified when the latest statement is posted for your accounts via the e-Statements Service through e-Alerts.

  • Direct Deposit: With direct deposit, your paycheck, Social Security payments, and other benefits may be securely and directly transferred into your BFSFCU account on a regularly scheduled basis.

  • Verified by Visa: Verified by Visa is a free service that protects your BFSFCU Visa credit card or UnionExpress Plus Visa debit card from unauthorized use while shopping online. By registering for this service you will obtain a password that offers an extra level of security. You will be able to use this password at checkout on many web sites.
