You may have heard or read about a recent incident involving a compromise of Visa®, MasterCard®, American Express® and Discover® credit and debit account data at a national merchant, The TJX Companies, Inc.
Bank-Fund Staff Federal Credit Union is very aware of this situation and has been working with Visa and MasterCard (the only cards we issue) to determine if any of our member’s accounts have been affected by this compromise. We will contact any member immediately if we confirm that their account has been affected.
Although certain account data may have been exposed in this incident, this does not necessarily mean that data related to your account has been taken or that a fraud has occurred on your account. We are actively monitoring the activity on your account to protect you from fraud and we will contact you if you need to take any action. As always, we strongly encourage you to review your monthly statement carefully and call us immediately if you see any suspicious activity.
It is also important to note that in the rare event fraud does occur, as a Visa or MasterCard cardholder, you are protected by Visa and MasterCard’s Zero Liability policies. Furthermore, no personal identification information, such as Social Security numbers or addresses, was stolen, thus the risk of identity theft is greatly reduced.
