Verified by Visa, a program which provides additional security for Visa cardholders making online purchases, has recently been targeted by a Phishing E-Mail Scam.
Phishing or brand spoofing, is a scam where the perpetrator sends out legitimate-looking e-mails that appear to be from a well-known or trusted company in an effort to “phish” or extract from you personal and financial information.

Dear (cardholder name),
In acordance with the User Agreement, section 9, Visa may immediately issue a warning, temporarily suspend, indefinitely suspend or terminate your Credit Card and refuse to provide our services to you if we believe that your actions may cause financial loss or legal liability for you, our users or us.
Our terms and conditions you agreed to state that your service must always be under your control or those you designate all times.
We have noticed some unusual activity related to your service that indicates that other parties may have access and or control of your Visa Credit Card.
To be able to use your credit card you must create a Personal Password.
Visa Personal Password enhances your current Visa account with a digital signature wich prevents unauthorized use and identity theft.
This action is mandatory and should be taken as quick as possible.
If you refuse to activate/update your Personal Password in the next 3 days we will be forced to freeze your Credit Card and you will have to contact your bank for a brand new Credit Card.

Note that E-mail Phishing scams often include typographical errors; in the e-mail example above, the word "accordance" in paragraph one is spelled incorrectly and the word "which" is spelled incorrectly in paragraph four.
If you receive an e-mail that appears to have been sent by Verified by Visa, and looks suspicious, or you have entered your personal account information on the fraudulent website, please contact member services immediately at (202) 212-6400 or 1-800-9BFSFCU (1-800-923-7328).
Remember, BFSFCU will never e-mail you asking for your sensitive personal information.
