70th Anniversary

October 14, 2017 marks the 70th anniversary of our founding and another proud milestone in our history.

On October 14, 1947, we received charter number 5582 to provide the staffs of the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund with a secure place to save and a convenient source of credit.  Today we are proud to serve nearly 90,000 members from around the world and to be caretakers of $4.5 billion in assets.

Our Logo

The symbol of our credit union, composed of a fanciful design of three ears of wheat, was created by our member, Hordur “Whitie” Karlsson. Mr. Karlsson was the Creative Director for the Graphics Department of the International Monetary Fund at the time. After sharing the concept with some credit union staff, the symbol was officially approved by then-CEO and Managing Director of the union, Richard J. Osius.

Donald Fowler

The first member of our credit union and one of the seven founders, Donald D. Fowler is awarded the first Distinguished Service Award. Mr. Fowler delivers a memorable speech on December 29, 1980, in which he states, “Not one of us who was responsible for organizing the Credit Union could have predicted its phenomenal growth, the numbers of persons it would serve or the variety of financial services it would render. Like the institutions it serves, it has become a large, important, respected, essential financial organization.”

Once a Member, Always a Member

Once a Member, Always a Member Our lifetime membership policy was enacted on August 28, 1987 and our Credit Union family continues to grow every year.

Community

We are proud supporters of the staff associations, retiree associations, family networks, and charitable giving campaigns of the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund. In addition, we support the Margaret McNamara Education Grants and their efforts to provide assistance to women from developing countries who wish to pursue higher education.

Since 2002 we have been a proud sponsor of the annual Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run®. As of 2016, we’ve helped raise more than $152,000 for the Children’s Miracle Network to date – which in turn helps over 17 million kids annually in 170 Children’s Hospitals nationwide.

Progress

We continue to seek new and improved ways for our members to manage their finances conveniently and easily. Mobile banking, mobile deposit, and our digital wallet options are recent examples of this commitment to progress.
