Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take
for funds from an outgoing international wire transfer to reach my bank outside the United States?
International wires usually take 3–6 business days to reach the destination bank. Delays may occur due to local settlement hours, compliance reviews, differences in banking systems, or processing limitations in certain countries.
How is the exchange rate
calculated for outgoing and incoming wire transfers?
For outgoing wires, the exchange rate is based on currency type and amount, so the larger the wire is, the better the exchange rate for the member.
There is also a currency conversion charge for incoming non-USD wires published on our website here.
I’m sending a wire to
Mexico, do I need to use the CLABE number?
Yes, if you’re sending funds to a Mexican bank account, you will typically need the recipient’s CLABE
number. When creating a recipient in Digital Banking, type the CLABE number in the account
number box.
A CLABE is an 18-digit banking number used in Mexico to identify the
receiving bank, branch, and account for electronic transfers. It helps ensure the money is routed
correctly.
Why were my wire
recipients not transferred to the new wire system?
As part of our transition from the legacy eWires system to our new wire platform, recipient (beneficiary) information was not migrated. This decision was made to enhance security, improve data accuracy, and ensure beneficiary information complies with current payment processing standards.
The global payments industry is in the midst of a significant transition to ISO-standard payment messaging, which introduces new data requirements, formats, and validation standards. Many recipient records stored in our legacy system were created under older standards and may no longer contain the information necessary to support modern payment processing requirements.
We strongly recommend obtaining current wire instructions directly from your recipient before sending a wire. Banking information can change due to account updates, bank mergers, routing changes, or other financial institution requirements. Under the Wire Service Agreement, members are responsible for providing complete and accurate wire instructions. Using outdated, incomplete, or incorrect information may result in delays, rejected wires, additional fees, misdirected funds, or loss of funds.
To help ensure your wire is processed accurately and efficiently, please verify recipient information before creating a recipient or initiating a transfer.
